Job Opportunity:
As Professional Services Engineer Payment HSM, you will hold technical trainings and product presentations to end customers and partner. You will perform software development activities, including coding, documenting, debugging, and testing of software applications. You will also support Project Manager at (customer) projects.


Responsibilities:


Professional Service
-Provide technical support to customers and partners by answering telephone calls and emails in line with departmental measures with a focus on high quality, as well as onsite support
-Escalate incidents by collaborating with support and development team.
-Ensure customers are represented within Utimaco with regards to product management and development
-Conduct technical product trainings and presentations for customers and partners


Software Development
-Review software specifications, user guides, and other documentation and make suggestions for modifications to author
-Review requirement specifications for completeness, identify areas that require further clarification, and suggest alternative approaches, in line with business needs
-Together with the leading project manager, write software specifications based on project and product requirements
-Make recommendations for software design based on functional specifications to the Team/Project Manager
-Design large sub-systems consisting of numerous interfacing components, in line with specified project timescales, quality and functionality requirements as assigned by the Team/Project Manager
-Write and modify code as agreed with Team/Project Manager to deliver according to specified project timescales, quality and functionality requirements
-Conduct functional, system and integration testing on own code and others across the sub-system, fixing code based on outcome
-Submit designs and specifications to peer reviews in line with agreed process and make modifications to reflect the feedback received
-Conduct and participate in peer reviews of designs and specifications in line with agreed process, ensuring adherence to standards and making suggestions to increase quality to the author
-Review own code and others across the sub-system after testing, identify opportunities to re-factor for increased clarity and make recommendations to the Team/Project Manager
-Exchange information on components with other engineers and the Team/Project Manager across development teams to identify cross-component issues and recommend solutions
-Provide recommendations and suggestions to Test Leads regarding testing approach for the sub-system
-Schedule own time to deliver against priorities agreed with Development Lead or Manager in line with agreed project timescales
-Provide clear updates on progress against assigned tasks in line with agreed process.
-Escalate any problems and exceptions that need to be addressed to the relevant Development Lead or Project Manager in a timely manner, with recommended solutions or workarounds
-Suggest improvements to departmental standards and procedures and take ownership for the implementation of elements assigned by Development Lead or Manager
-Identify coverage-gaps of the functional specification and provide recommendations for improvements to the Lead Developer
-Identify tasks that need to be achieved to deliver the functional specification, and provide accurate estimates of time required for own tasks
-Exchange information with representatives from other Engineering departments or with customers to share ideas and make recommendations to resolve issues
-Coach other engineers on technologies, processes and products to enable them to contribute more effectively
-Conduct presentations to other developers on products and technologies.


Support Technical Project Management
-Technical project management for small or parts of customer projects
-Conduct needs analysis with customers technical staff to determine technical requirements and specifications
-Use project management tools to establish clear milestones
-Regularly meet with project members to check progress against agreed actions
-Develop and maintain customer documentation
-Support sales by offering technical knowledge expertise within evaluation and proof of concept phases
-Perform technical trainings and presentations internally and to customers
-Research incidents by replicating customer's issues within a test development



Qualifications:


-3+ years as Professional Service Engineer focusing on Hardware Security Modules dedicated to Payment Applications
-Recognized expertise in cryptography applied to payment use cases.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills-English at native speaker level
-Has made recommendations for the content of technical and functional specifications
-Has given technical training to customer or coaching of colleagues
-Designed and developed sub-systems consisting of interfacing software components
-Function, system and integration testing of own code and that of others
-C/C++, Java development experience
-Scripting language development experience e.g. Perl, Python, Bash, Tcl
-Has written technical and functional specifications
-Experience sharing expertise with colleagues on one technology or developed software using a number of different technologies
-Working to formal project management processes
-Developed commercial software through all stages of a Software Development Life Cycle
-Design and write code and functional tests in line with requirements
-Refactoring code 
-Can write high quality code
-Evaluation of code and design quality  
-Understands how software components interface with each other and fit with the asset technical strategy 
-Analysis of fitness for purpose of software solutions, also in co-operation with customer if necessary 
-Ability to write technical specifications based on functionality 
-Evaluation of technical and functional specifications 
-Can give clear and understandable written and verbal instructions  
-Asks questions, checks for understanding, provides explanations clearly and precisely 
-Accurate estimation of task completion
-Able to identify and schedule own tasks in line with set objectives with minimal guidance   
-Able to work co-operatively with others to achieve project and team goals

Other Requirements/Information:
-American citizenship or Permanent Resident status required
-Clean driver's license required
-Position preferably based at our Campbell, CA office. Candidates with right profile from other US locations will also be considered
-Frequent travels throughout North America and occasional travels to Europe
